Session cancellation, Saturday 23rd January

Our 8-11am track session has been cancelled as Revolution want the rider's D to set up for their event.

York track training day

This is now on (weather permitting) and will run from 1-4pm on Sunday 10th April at York Velodrome, York Sport Village. It will focus on omnium events so bring your omnium kit and please use appropriate equipment and gearing. It is a new outdoor track, 250m and one of the Northern Youth Omnium rounds will be held there on 7th May so it's a great opportunity to prepare for this. Usual session charges and please keep an eye on the weather forecast. I will check conditions with the velodrome first thing on the Sunday morning and email if they have to cancel.

Youth Tour of Scotland

We have two U16 boys teams going to this event and would like to enter a girls team also - but we need more riders for a team! The girls event is open to U16 and U14s and is a great opportunity for Youth A/B girls with road/circuit racing experience. The event is from April 1st to 4th (full details here) , please let me know if you are interested.

Support Matt Rotherham!

Sportcity Velo's Matt Rotherham has launched a fundraising bid to support his 2016 sprinting season. Matt has made great progress over the past few months - some of you will have seen him beating national sprint champion Lewis Oliva 2-0 and setting a 10.14 PB for 200m at the last Revolution - and if you would like to support him this year you can make a donation on hisgofundme page. Read about what he's up to on 53x12.net.

Len Woffindin & British Cycling

A very big thanks for the support from Eastlands and Sportcity, and to those who came not on this email, and equally to those who ran the session to allow me time to go.

I am now a BC North West board member.

The first job will be to see just what goes on!

Club News for January 18th 2014

Club News 18th January 2014

  • There is no Saturday session on February 1st, due to the Revolution on that evening.  Group 1 & 2 riders who would normally attend this session, should come the week after.

  • Clubroom cupboards – if anyone would like a large metal or wooden cupboard, there are three spare (one metal, one wooden and one with a glass front) outside the bike store, they are around 4 feet wide and about 3ft 6inch high and free to whoever would like them.

  • Membership – a quick reminder that membership must be renewed as soon as possible unless already completed.  British Cycling membership will also need renewing from the beginning of the year, as racing licenses run to December 21st.  BC licenses will only be issued to paid-up club members.

  • The ACT track league will accept last year’s BC racing licenses until the end of January 2014.

  • Session Fees – these are now £8 for Saturdays and Wednesdays, with a discount of £2 for Manchester City Council Tax payers.  A valid club membership card is needed to sign on to each session; otherwise there is an extra £1 charge for the session.

  • Safety Checks – If riders are using their own or Club bikes, it is rider’s and parents’ responsibility to safety check the bikes before riding them.  Club Coaches will always provide advice or assist in bike checks. The main points to consider are as follows:
    • Tyres – condition and pressure
    • Wheels – damage, loose spokes wheelnuts or bearings,
    • Pedals – tightness and condition
    • Cleats – check for wear, damage and loose screws
    • Handlebars - security of clamps and presence of bar-end caps
    • Chainset and chain – tightness of chainring bolts and chain tension
