Good Friday Meeting

The Good Friday Meeting is the most iconic open track cycling event in the calendar. With over 110 years of history it's older than the Tour de France, and is the oldest track cycling event in Britain.

The Good Friday Meeting 2017 took place on Friday 14th April at it's new home, Lee Valley VeloPark, where Olympic history was made.

SportCity was represented very effectively by five riders; Ellie Russell, Matt Rotherham, Tom Rotherham, Chris Heaton and Joel Partington and they all performed superbly!

The results were:

Matt - 1st in the Golden wheel scratch race, 2nd in the open international sprint
Tom - 1st in the elimination, 4th in the Golden wheel scratch race
Chris - 1st in the White Hope sprint,
Ellie - 2nd in Points, elimination & scratch
Joel - 6th in the open international sprint, 7th in the open keiren

Simon Yates in Le Tour

It was a great feeling watching ‘one of our own’ passing by in the peloton at Hawes last Saturday in Le Grand Depart and many thanks to Joan, who's pictures are so much better than mine!  Simon is doing well and at the end of the last stage had climbed 17 places.  Today I see him in a breakaway more than 7 minutes ahead of the peloton and looking quite comfortable.  It is about 10 years since Simon and his twin brother Adam joined Eastlands Velo and they have both gone on to successful careers in cycling.

All the coaches and officials of Eastlands Velo wish Simon the best of luck in the remaining stages.

Tom Rotherham 's Keirin Racing at Alkmaar

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND – 4TH/5TH MAY 2014

Tom attended a keirin event in Alkmaar Holland.

After 500 miles and 9 hours of driving, we arrived at the velodrome in Alkmaar.  The event started with a flying lap.  Tom was placed 14th – not bad considering the top Dutch riders were in attendance.  Then followed a keirin ladder.  Tom ended up in the 2nd keirin group for the final, winning it to take 7th place overall and 2nd Junior. A great weekend that ended at an ‘All you can eat’ spare rib restaurant in Ghent.

Well Done Tom!
